The Indian Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) remains a mandatory document for your 485 Graduate Visa or Permanent Residency application. Because VFS Global serves as the outsourced partner for the Indian Consulate, you must follow a specific “hybrid” process: applying on the Indian Government’s portal first, then submitting physically to VFS.

Here is the updated 2026 roadmap for a successful application.

Step 1: The Online Passport Portal (Government Side)

Before touching the VFS website, you must register on the Passport Seva at Indian Embassies and Consulates portal.

  1. Select Region: Australia.
  2. Register: Create a login and select “Apply for Police Clearance Certificate.”
  3. Fill the Form: Use your details exactly as they appear in your current Indian Passport.
  4. The ARN: Once submitted, download the PDF and note your Application Reference Number (ARN).

Step 2: VFS Global Registration & Payment

Now, visit the VFS Global Australia website.

  1. Register/Login: Create a VFS profile.
  2. Select Service: Choose “PCC Services.”
  3. Pay Fees: In 2026, the total cost is approximately $46.00 AUD (Consular Fee + VFS Service Fee + ICWF). Note that a 1.95% surcharge applies for credit card payments.
  4. Download the Checklist: This is the most important document to ensure you don’t get rejected.

3. 2026 Document Checklist (Indian Nationals)

  • By Post: If you cannot attend in person, you can mail your application. Ensure you include a Credit Card Authorization Form for fees and a Pre-paid Platinum Express Envelope for the return of your passport.

5. 2026 Processing Times & Tracking

  • Standard Timeline: In April 2026, if your police verification in India is clear, it typically takes 15 to 28 business days.
  • The Delay Factor: If your “Personal Particulars” require a fresh police verification in your home town in India, it can take 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Tracking: Use your Web Reference Number and Date of Birth on the VFS “Track Your Application” page.
